October 3 – Introduction to Mushroom Foraging – Bracebridge
An introductory class on how to identify wild mushrooms, mushroom ecology, and beginning steps in mushroom foraging.
During this class, Laura Gilmour of Wild Muskoka will share with participants the fascinating ecology of mushrooms and role they play in the natural world and human history. She will walk participants through the steps to learn how to safely and accurately identify mushrooms. After the introduction session, we will explore the land as a group and talk about to how to assess habitats for good mushroom hunting, see what species are fruiting and discuss their edible or medicinal potential. Join us for a fun afternoon of mushroom exploration! Come dressed for the weather with sturdy footwear for walking off-trail.
