Don’s Bakery

In 1947, Don Lloyd opened the doors to what would become one of Muskoka’s most beloved traditions – Don’s Bakery in Bala, Ontario.
From the very beginning, people lined up for the bakery’s famous recipes: fluffy scones, delicious butter tarts, sticky Chelsea buns, fresh donuts, and the kind of baking that instantly felt like summer.
For generations, locals, cottagers, and visitors have made Don’s part of their family traditions. Whether it’s an early morning coffee run, a box of donuts for the kids, or bringing home a loaf of bread for dinner, Don’s has always been a part of people’s summer homes.
Over the decades, ownership has changed hands, but the heart of Don’s has remained the same. Each owner has shared a commitment to preserving the recipes, traditions, and nostalgic charm that generations of customers have grown up with. In May 2026, Lily McDonald became the sixth owner of Don’s Bakery. Having worked at the bakery as a teenager, returning to Don’s felt deeply personal. she jumped on the chance to honour its legacy while bringing back the warmth, quality, and spirit that made people fall in love with it in the first place.
Today, they still bake Don’s way, making products from scratch daily, using quality ingredients, and honouring time-tested recipes.
