Historical Hot Spots

By Kate
March 1, 2015

The Explorers’ Edge region of Ontario is a history buff’s delight. Rich stories have been recorded about the land and its people, from the Native Canadian cultures that were the original inhabitants, to the pioneers who felled the first trees for settlements.

Discover days gone by at one of many area heritage and museum sites, such as Muskoka Heritage Place in Huntsville, The Museum on Tower Hill in Parry Sound, Muskoka Lakes Museum in Port Carling, the Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre in Gravenhurst, or the Dorset Heritage Museum in Lake of Bays. There are many organizations throughout the region such as The Rosseau Historical Society, which keep the torch for history lighted by acting as archivists and by hosting regular lecture series.

History in Explorers’ Edge: It’s always a fascinating story!  For more information on historical sites and centres, visit Muskoka Tourism, Parry Sound Tourism, Algonquin Park, Almaguin Highlands and Loring Restoule.
