Pride in the Highlands: Getting to Know the Almaguin Pride Network
The 2SLGBTQ+ community has always been part of the Almaguin Highlands. Since 2022, the Almaguin Pride Network has been making sure it’s seen, celebrated, and supported. A completely volunteer-led, grassroots organisation, Almaguin Pride is building something meaningful in one of Ontario’s most beautiful and rural regions — and in 2026, they’re doing more than ever.
Who They Are
Founded in 2022 by a group of dedicated local community members, Almaguin Pride’s mission is straightforward and powerful: to support the representation, de-stigmatization, and growth of community between 2SLGBTQ+ individuals and the wider local population. Their vision is equally clear — an inclusive, safe, and supportive Almaguin Highlands where everyone is free to be themselves. The organisation is guided by five core values: Community, Honesty, Equity, Collaboration, and Kindness — and everything they do flows from those principles. 2025 was described as one of their most progress-filled years yet, with new events, more community partnerships, and stronger engagement across the region and beyond.
The 2026 Events
Grease Grrrl Car Care Workshop — March 8 One of the most creative and community-minded events on their calendar, the Grease Grrrl Car Care Workshop is a hands-on, empowering event designed to give women, non-binary, and 2SLGBTQ+ community members practical car maintenance skills in a safe and welcoming environment. Practical, fun, and exactly the kind of initiative that sets Almaguin Pride apart.
Fourth Annual Almaguin Pride Party — June 6 The centrepiece of Almaguin Pride’s year returns for its fourth edition — a night of music, laughter, and unapologetic queer joy open to everyone. Friends, chosen family, and allies from across the region come together for what has quickly become one of the most beloved community events in the Almaguin Highlands. If you’ve never been, this is the year to go.
Steers & Queers: Gay Ol’ Opry — Northridge Inn, Sundridge In partnership with the legendary Steers & Queers touring show, Almaguin Pride brings its signature queer country and western party back to the stunning shores of Lake Bernard at the Northridge Inn. Live music, drag, burlesque, line dancing, and a pay-what-you-can door — dress in your finest Western gear and make a weekend of it. Watch almaguinpride.com for the 2026 date.
The Everyone Is Welcome Here Sticker Campaign
One of Almaguin Pride’s most visible initiatives for 2026 is their Everyone Is Welcome Here sticker campaign, supported by Almaguin Community Economic Development (ACED). Local businesses across the Highlands are being invited to place a sticker on their doors — a simple, powerful signal of acceptance, allyship, and safe space for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. If you’re a business owner who wants to participate, reach out directly at [email protected] to request a sticker.
