R.W. Haviland Studio & Gallery
Canadian painter, R.W.Haviland, was born in Ottawa and raised in the foothills of Alberta. Challenged by her father to respond with emotion to the landscape of mountains and prairies they explored together, a career in the arts evolved for her from these adventures. Work trips back to the high Rockies, along Newfoundland’s cliffs, around the edges of Vancouver Island and Lake Superior, and on the Gulf of the St.Lawrence islands have produced hundreds of sketches, while “Songlines”, an ongoing series of large canvases, celebrates the colour season as lived on Haviland’s piece of rural Ontario.
Studies at Ontario College of Art and Design were followed by free-lance projects in Toronto, Montreal, and Muskoka. She was a founding partner in Gravenhurst News, a weekly paper, before establishing herself as an independent artist with a studio/gallery near Burk’s Falls. Haviland’s solo exhibitions and participation in group shows have placed her work in collections throughout Canada, the US, Europe and in the Ontario Government Permanent Collection; she has also received exhibition grants from the Ontario Arts Council. The studio and gallery in Burk’s Falls is open by chance or appointment.
