Fishing in Port Loring-Restoule
The Pickerel River is a fishing paradise for the avid and recreational angler alike.
Loring-Restoule is home to the iconic Pickerel River system, 42 kilometres of navigable waterway that is also renowned for great fishing. Fall in particular is an excellent time of year to grab a bunch of friends for a weekend getaway or a week-long fishing trip to experience the stunning natural landscape of our beautiful lakes and rivers.
There are many opportunities for every level of angler to fish, from beginners to seasoned veterans. Enjoy fishing off the dock, drive in to fishing lodges, or boat in to lakes more off the beaten path. Serious anglers can also fly-in to our most remote fishing hot spots, far from civilization. Anglers who try our river system come back year after year to enjoy our waters and the rewards of a fantastic fishing adventure.
Popular fish species of the Pickerel River include small mouth bass, large mouth bass, perch, pike and pickerel (walleye).
The Loring-Restoule area also attracts top pickerel fisherman, thanks to the Argyle Fish Enhancement Program and their re-stocking efforts. Port Loring was home to the first walleye/pickerel restocking program in the province, ensuring the the Pickerel River lives up to its name.
And why not book a fishing trip with the kids? Fishing is an inexpensive activity that creates memories to last a lifetime. Being out on the water with your family allows for quiet time and togetherness, while teaching children valuable skills and giving them an appreciation for the natural world around us. (On the flip side, I’m told by participants in guy getaways that nothing beats a retreat to one of our fishing lodges without the wife and kids!)
This October and November, visit the Loring-Restoule area of the great Canadian wilderness for a truly great fishing getaway. Off the grid – as nature intended!
