April 29 – Dave Mowat & Clayton Yates
Dave Mowat, Alderville First Nations Chief, historian & lifelong musician, has been playing the Blues since the early 80’s. His style can best be described as Chicago, Delta, and country blues. He saw, and was inspired by, greats like John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Rogers, John Hammond Jr, Otis Rush, and James Cotton. He also played with Hubert Sumlin, guitar player for the great Howling Wolf.
He’ll be taking the stage with with Clayton Yates. Expert at the guitar, mandolin, bass, and ukulele, Clayton has been teaching music in Northumberland County since 2015. He has also performed and recorded professionally for the better part of two decades.
If you love classic Blues with a good dose of top notch harmonica playing, you do not want to miss this show! “Dave Mowat sings and plays Blues Harp like he’s got the devil on his heels and guitarist Clayton Yates has lived a life of Blues! This is the real stuff, think of Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, real Gospel and Chicago Blues!” They recently performed at the International Storytelling Festival with Dave sharing stories from the Mississauga, Ojibway and Anishiaabeg peoples with a knowledge of history based in his own experiences. Dave is the elected chief of Alderville First Nation where he continues to influence others.
